Do you know about: The Deep web?

Deep web

The Deep Web, Deep Net, Invisible Web, or Hidden Web are search terms referring to the content on the World Wide Web that is not indexed by standard search engines. Computer scientist Mike Bergman is credited with coining the term in 2000.

When you search ‘dark web’ on wikipedia, You’ll get this generic description that lets out nothing about the topic itself. Here’s a bigger window into the world on the dark side of the internet.

We use our usual websites like google, yahoo, bing, etc on a daily basis. According to the guardian, you only access 0.03% of the internet through search engines like google. The rest makes up for the deep web. (pretty deep eh?)

“Deep web” is distinct from “dark web”. The “dark web” is the encrypted network that exists between Tor servers and their clients, whereas the “deep web” is simply the content of databases and other web services that for one reason or another cannot be indexed by conventional search engines.

In simple terms, The deep web is anything that can’t be found through search engines and the dark web only accounts for a small part of the deep web.

All the governments function on the deep web. Stuff you’re not supposed to know is all here. Top secret transactions you watch in movies and shows? They all happen here. Talk about accessing government databases, secret experiments and court records. This is where you find them. ( Don’t get ideas though, unless you want to give out an open invitation to the FBI)

The internet you use on a daily basis is the clear water that you see on the surface. All the content that you see is screened for prohibited content, controlled by the government.

Here’s the murky water you missed out on.

The dark web is still detectable if you search for it on your regular search engine but you can access it only by clicking on links.

Google search can’t find the pages behind these website links. Most of the content located in the Deep Web exists in these websites that require a search and is not illicit and scary like the media portrays. However, if you go a little deeper in the Internet you’ll find the Dark Web. Sites such as Wikileaks operate on this side of the internet. Search for it enough and you’ll find it. People argue that this is the only place where freedom of speech can still prevail without the government or the dominating fraction trying to cover up the truth.

P.s:- Even your torrent sites like bitTorrent, Kissass torrents and the pirate bay fall in this side of the internet. (After all It is illegal to use utorrent, isnt it?)

The Dark Web then is classified as a small portion of the Deep Web that has been intentionally hidden and is inaccessible through standard web browsers. Almost all of illegal activities on the internet that you’ve heard about takes place here. Terrorist groups, Pedophiles, Rapists and all other illegal groups have their communities on the deep web where they can connect with each other and function.

How do they do it?

The dark web has numerous layers of encryption that the browers such as Onion, etc help you with. Your IP address keeps changing constantly, changing your location. One minute you’re in France, the next, you’re in London. This helps in keeping you anonymous but in recent years, the government has found ways to track you down. You don’t need to worry, unless you’ve done something illegal. All in all, I think misuse of the anonymity offered by the deep web for illegal purposes is something we need to eliminate. What do you think?
